Gamblers win playoff opener in convincing fashion, 7-1

GREEN BAY (Green Bay Gamblers) - The Green Bay Gamblers defeated the Youngstown Phantoms 7-1 in game 1 in the second round of the Clark Cup Playoffs at the Resch Center. The Gamblers take a 1-0 lead in the 5 game series with the Phantoms.

Alex Kile scored a pair of goals in game 1 of the series, coming first from a good look out pass by Andy Welinski with 25.3 seconds remaining in the first period, and the second goal came in the second period scoring top shelf of the net. The Michigan recruit has 2 goals in game 1 of the series.

"We wanted the first goal and we just went off that to create momentum," forward Alex Kile, "once we got the first score we were rolling and it was clicking after that."

Alex Broadhurst scored an early goal for the Gamblers in the first period at the 1:58 mark with an assist from Sam Herr. The forward scored his 1st goal of these playoffs.

Coming off a hat trick in the last game of the regular season, Grant Arnold scored in the first period from a pass in front of the crease at the 4:19 mark. The Denver recruit earned his 1st playoff goal of the series.

Andy Welinski scored with a shot near the blue line to give the Gamblers their third goal in the match up. The Minnesota-Duluth recruit scored his 1st playoff goal in the five game series.

Also scoring their 1st playoff goals for the Gamblers were Markus Lauridsen and Ville Jarvelainen both scoring in the second period.

Goalie Ryan McKay clinched the first playoff win with 19 saves on 20 shots. The Miami of Ohio recruit earned his 7th overall playoff win with the Gamblers.

The Gamblers are home tomorrow afternoon to face the Youngstown Phantoms in game 2 of the series. Face off is set for 3:05 p.m.
