A Close Call

Brewer manager Ron Roenicke decided to sit down John Axford as his closer after Monday nights meltdown in the 9th inning that led to Milwaukee's 3-2 loss to St. Louis. And on Tuesday night Milwaukee's skipper had to be wondering if he went with the right guy in Axford's place. The Brewers built a 3-2 lead into the 9th inning when Francisco Rodriguez came on to close out the game. But much like the previous night, the appearance didn't start out too well. After putting two runners aboard with nobody out, K-Rod finally settled in to record three straight outs to end the contest with a 3-2 victory. Rickie Weeks crushed his ninth home run of the year to give the Brewers the go ahead run and Randy Wolf scattered eight hits while striking out six batters and allowing two runs. Milwaukee finishes their series with the Cardinals on Wednesday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. Former Timber Rattler Tyler Thornburg (0-0, 7.36) faces Adam Wainwright (7-9, 4.62).
