(CBS)  Gas thefts are on the rise as pump prices continue to climb.

Police say thieves are siphoning gas--- or even puncturing holes directly in the fuel tank.

In Sacramento, where the cost of regular is already above 4 dollars a gallon, gas thefts are up 50 percent.

Experts worry that as summer approaches, thefts will rise even more as prices go higher.

They suggest investing in a locking gas cap to protect your car's fuel.
