Help is on the way for a Packers team that has started the preseason 0-2.
Greg Jennings and Jermichael Finley returned to practice Sunday with hopes of rejuvenating a Green Bay first-team offense that has managed only one touchdown so far this preseason.
"We've been looking a little sloppy," Finley said after practice Sunday. "It's important right now especially on these last two stretches of games, we got to get the chemistry and timing down with 12 (Aaron Rodgers). We work with a timing offense. We need to be rolling that first week."
A quad injury has kept Finley out, while the two-time Pro Bowler Jennings has been sidelined for more than two weeks with a concussion.\
"Any time a player comes back, it's important," said Mike McCarthy when asked Sunday about the return of two big playmakers to the offense.
"They're two outstanding football players and any time you have those types of guys in the mix it definitely adds to your group when they come back."
McCarthy says conditioning is the biggest part of determining whether Jennings and Finley would play Thursday, but both indicated they have every intention to be on the field against the Bengals Thursday.
"For me it's about getting back in shape," Jennings said talking to reporters for the first time since suffering his head injury.
"I've been shut down completely for two weeks. When I say shut down completely, they wouldn't let me walk into the weight room. They wouldn't let me see a treadmill. They wouldn't let me see anything. So it is going to be different for me just getting my wind back."
Jennings also revealed that he thinks he actually suffered the concussion at practice a few days before leaving Family Night injured. The Packers #1 receiver says he had headaches after a hit two days prior, but thought nothing of them.
As tough as it's been for Jennings to be away from the field, it hasn't been any easier at home where he hasn't been able to be the dad or husband he's used to his three daughters and pregnant wife.
"It's tough being as active as I am with my girls and have to completely withdraw (as part of the rehab)."
"But you have to take it easy. Obviously I wanted to get back out here so I wanted to do the smart thing, but being a dad is first and foremost. My health is first and foremost as well. So I was doing the things I needed to do to get back healthy, so I can be the dad they were accustomed to seeing."
Also returning to the field Sunday were fullback John Kuhn (ankle) and cornerback Sam Shields (elbow).
After 17 players missed their last preseason game due to injury, the Packers hope a return to health helps them finish strong with the regular season just three weeks away.
"Any time you are missing a lot of guys, you are not going to see the same output," said Jennings. "But (we are) getting guys back, starting to get healthy. Hopefully we can resemble something of what we showed glimpses of last year."
