Packers Sign Veteran Offensive Lineman

Updated: August 9, 2012

The Green Bay Packers signed G/T Reggie Wells, claimed WR Andy Brewer off waivers from Philadelphia, placed G Jaymes Brooks on reserve/physically unable to perform and placed T Mike McCabe on injured reserve. The transactions were announced Wednesday by Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations.

Wells, a 6-foot-4, 318-pound 10th-year player out of Clarion University (Pa.), has played in 117 games and started 91 contests with three different clubs. He has started games at left guard (79), right tackle (10) and left tackle (two) during his career.

Drafted in the sixth round (No. 177 overall) by Arizona in 2003, Wells went on to play in 104 games (90 starts) in seven seasons (2003-09) with the Cardinals, which was tied for the most games played by anyone on the team over that span. Wells appeared in eight contests and started one with Philadelphia in 2010, and played in five games with Carolina in 2011. He will wear No. 68 for the Packers.

Brewer, a 6-foot-2, 216-pound first-year player out of Northwestern, signed with the Eagles as a free agent on July 31, 2012, after playing for the United Football League's Omaha Nighthawks in 2010-11. He will wear No. 17 for the Packers.

After beginning his career at Northwestern as a quarterback, Brewer moved to wide receiver and went on to catch 76 passes for 1,118 yards (14.7 avg.) and nine TDs during his career. As a senior in 2009, Brewer set a single-season school record by averaging 16.2 yards per reception as he hauled in 57 passes for 925 yards and nine scores.

Brooks, a rookie from Virginia Tech, signed with the Packers as a non-drafted free agent on May 7. He had not practiced during training camp due to a hamstring injury.

McCabe, a rookie from Holy Cross, signed with Green Bay as a non-drafted free agent on May 3. He sustained a hip injury in practice on July 28.
