Wisconsin property taxes to drop for first time in 12 years

By:
Updated: April 16, 2012
Madison, Wis. (WFRV) For the first time in 12 years the majority of Wisconsin property owners will notice a decrease on their tax bill.

Governor Scott Walker's administration announced Monday morning that taxes on a median value home dropped 0.4 percent. This is the first decrease since 2000.

The Walker administration is crediting the drop to the Collective Bargaining Law, but failed to provide any evidence proving that point. The governor's office says more information should be released by the state Monday afternoon.

The Collective Bargaining Law stripped most public employees of their union rights. The change has angered Democrats and sparked a recall against Walker and five other Republicans.
