Bielema was hired as Arkansas' coach on Tuesday, after spending the past 7 seasons in Madison. Wednesday, Bielema cited a desire to coach in the SEC and compete for National Championships as two of the main reasons for taking the Arkansas coaching job.
Alvarez, who served as Wisconsin's head coach from 1990-2005, selected Bielema to be his successor. Now, it appears Alvarez will succeed Bielema by leading the team in the Rose Bowl.
The Wisconsin State Journal reported Wednesday evening that Alvarez was asked by the Badgers' team captains to coach them in their third consecutive Rose Bowl appearance, and that Alvarez was "honored" to do it.
Alvarez will hold a press conference at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday in Madison, where it's expected he'll announce his plans to coach the team in Pasadena.
