GREEN BAY (WFRV) Just before 7:30 Sunday night, Cathalina Glenn heard commotion outside her Main Street home. She stepped outside and saw a man lying in the street. The victim of a hit and run driver. A young woman tended to the man until paramedics arrived.

"She says she was a CNA nurse. She says she checked him and he was still breathing. But the ambulance they got to moving kind of slow and once they got him on the thing (stretcher) he wasn't moving or anything," said Cathalina Glenn, whose whom is kiddy corner to the accident scene.

The man, 52-year-old Daryl Wayka, died hours later at an area hospital from his injuries. The accident reconstruction team, along with witness statements, helped police determine limited, but important details about the accident.

"We just know that the male was hit by a vehicle, based on how he was positioned in the road way and based on his head injuries, in which the vehicle then headed west on Main Street," said Lt. Kevin Warych, Green Bay Police spokesman.

Police believe pictures taken by a security camera at a nearby business show the suspect vehicle, a 1999-to-2005 Pontiac Grand Am, with a damaged drivers-side, rear-view mirror. While police hope for leads. Cathalina Glenn hopes drivers will just slow down.

"There's children out here. Not just us grown ups, it's children. That could've been one of our child. What would you have done then?" she said.

Local 5's Terry Kovarik has the story.
