Reports: Badgers set to hire Utah State's Andersen as football coach

By: Nick Goddard
Updated: December 18, 2012

According to multiple reports Tuesday night, the Wisconsin Badgers have found their man to replace Bret Bielema as head football coach: Utah State coach Gary Andersen.

The Wisconsin State Journal first reported the news.

Andersen, 48, served as Utah's defensive coordinator for five seasons, from 2004-2008.  The Utes had unbeaten seasons in his first and final years in Salt Lake City.

In 2009, Andersen took over the Utah State program, and after 4-8 seasons in 2009 and 2010, the Aggies played in bowl games each of the past two years, routing Toldeo in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl this past Saturday to wrap up an 11-2 2012 campaign.

The Badgers job has been open for 2 weeks, after Bielema's sudden departure for the University of Arkansas on December 4th.  The Badgers are preparing for the Rose Bowl on January 1st.  Former Wisconsin head coach and current Athletic Director Barry Alvarez will lead the team in the game.
