College Basketball: Poor shooting dooms Wisconsin in loss to Michigan State

The Wisconsin Badgers missed 11 of 18 free throw attempts on Tuesday night, and the Michigan State Spartans left the Kohl Center with a 49-47 victory.
The loss is the second in a row for the Badgers (13-6 overall, 4-2 Big Ten). Besides their free throw shooting problems, the team also shot just 29.6% from the field, and were 8-27 from three-point range. Mike Bruesewitz was the only Badger player to reach double digits in scoring, with 10 points.
Despite the team's offensive woes, the Badgers still had a chance to win the game or force overtime in the final seconds. Down two, George Marshall drove the lane and was fouled, sending him to the line for a pair of free thows.
In a metaphor for how the night went, Marshall badly missed the first foul shot, then missed the rim completely when he tried missing the second on purpose, handing the ball to Michigan State. The Spartans were able to run out the remaining three seconds to escape with the win.
The Badgers return to action Saturday afternoon, when they welcome the Minnesota Golden Gophers to the Kohl Center at 1:00 P.M.
