FDA Fines Red Cross

By: Ross McAbee
Updated: January 16, 2012

The FDA is fining the Red Cross close to $10,000,000 for failing to correct violations of its blood safety rules.

That's according to a letter from the FDA to the Red Cross made public on January 13th.

The Red Cross has been cited 14 times since 2003 and fined close to $46,000,000 dollars for similar offenses in the past.

The FDA says staff members lacked blood safety training and that the Red Cross did not supply a list of donors who were disqualified from giving blood.
