APPLETON, Wis (WFRV) - Mining was a big part of the Wisconsin economy for decades, but stopped years ago. Companies stopped mining in the state because of cost and went overseas.
Wisconsin's deposits are rich and companies want to come back to do business. However, Wisconsin is one of the most difficult states in the country to start a mine. In fact, no mines currently operate here.
