APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) - On April 3rd voters will weigh in on a plan to expand Fox Valley Technical College.

It serves more students than any other tech school in the state.

The Fox Valley Technical College referendum includes seven priority projects including a remodel of the agriculture center.

In his 29 years as an instructor at Fox Valley Technical College, Randy Tenpas has seen quite a change in agriculture.

"People do not realize the technology that belongs on the farm as well as in the agri-business sector. We are looking for technicians that can handle computers, hydraulics, electronics" says Tenpas.

Randy was raised on a dairy farm. He says "In order to be in agriculture you have to have a passion. But if you understand Ag financing and marketing, that is going to keep you in the industry".

In the last  five years alone enrollment in Ag related programs has increased 87 percent at the Appleton campus alone.

The team of instructors offers as much hands on training as possible to duplicate what takes place on the job.

Thanks to partnerships with local businesses students at FVTC get to work with and service the latest equipment.

"We have tractors that if you program them correctly can actually go through a field and do auto steering" explains Tenpas.

He is not just teaching young students. The college offers a program to help experienced farmers improve their business model .

According to Tenpas "This an industry reflective of other industries. We are getting larger and we are specializing"

Fox Valley Technical College has a nearly 100 percent job placement rate in the agriculture industry
