Food service workers in Neenah concerned about jobs

District officials tell Local 5 that they pay out more in benefits than salary to its full and part-time union food service employees. The district hopes that moving food service to an outside contractor will save them money.
While Neenah food service workers worry about their jobs, they might take some comfort in looking at the example set in the Fond du Lac School District. Fond du Lac outsourced its food service program 15 years ago because the school was losing money on school lunches.
Officials tell Local 5 that employees who were working in the program were hired on by the contractor, so no one lost their job because of the switch.
Currently, there are about 90 full and part-time food service workers in the Fond du Lac School District.
