Identity theft consumer tips

(WFRV) There are steps you can take to make sure you don't become a victim of identity theft. The WI Bureau of Consumer Protection suggests taking these precautions.
1-Guard your social security number--- don't carry it around with you.
2- Limit the number of identification cards in your wallet.
3- If you're gone from home for awhile--- have someone pick up your mail.
4- Never give out personal information on the phone or email.
5- Check your bills and statements.
6- Stop pre-approved credit card offers by calling the 1-888-567-8688 or visit optoutprescreen.com
7- Check your credit report regularly.
8- Keep a list of all credit cards and bank accounts.
9- Sign up for Wisconsin's No Call List. 1-866-966-2255 or visit NoCall.Wisconsin.gov
10- Keep sensitive documents in a safe place.
If you do become a victim of Identity theft notify one of the three credit reporting agencies immediately and ask them to place a fraud alert on your report.
