(WFRV)  There are steps you can take to make sure you don't become a victim of identity theft.  The WI Bureau of Consumer Protection suggests taking these precautions.

1-Guard your social security number--- don't carry it around with you.

2- Limit the number of identification cards in your wallet.

3- If you're gone from home for awhile--- have someone pick up your mail.

4- Never give out personal information on the phone or email.

5- Check your bills and statements.

6- Stop pre-approved credit card offers by calling the 1-888-567-8688 or visit optoutprescreen.com

7- Check your credit report regularly.

8- Keep a list of all credit cards and bank accounts.

9- Sign up for Wisconsin's No Call List.  1-866-966-2255 or visit NoCall.Wisconsin.gov

10- Keep sensitive documents in a safe place.

If you do become a victim of Identity theft notify one of the three credit reporting agencies immediately and ask them to place a fraud alert on your report.

1- Equifax 1-888-766-0008

2- Experian 1-888-397-3742

3- TransUnion 1-800-680-7289
