APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) Outagamie County Republicans met behind closed doors Tuesday night to discuss, among other things, Rick Santorum bowing out of the race.
Santorum did well during last week's Wisconsin Republican Presidential Primary, topping Romney in Brown, Calumet and Outagamie Counties.
Voters we spoke with in Appleton were surprised by the news. But they believe campaign finances, the health of Santorum's daughter and delegate counts all contributed to the former Senator's decision.
"I thought he wouldn't give up!" one voter told us.
Another added, "[Santorum] was doing decently." Yet another believes, "He just understands the people better."
A spokesperson for the Outagamie County Republicans says the group is now planning a strategy to back the remaining candidates who support a repeal of President Obama's health care plan and federal spending control.
