Green Bay, Wis. (WFRV) Madison businessman and Republican Senate candidate Eric Hovde joined Tom Zalaski Sunday on "Your Local Election Headquarters."

Hovde is one of several Republicans running for the seat being vaccated by Sen. Herb Kohl. Hovde is new to politics and a bit of an unknown. He launched a statewide ad blitz this month.

While being new to politics, Hovde has vast experience in the financial sector. He says it was the nation's trillion dollar deficit that sparked his interest to run.

"We're heading towards, sadly, a financial cliff and we better change course now," said Hovde of the nation's finanicial problems.

Last week Hovde unveiled his new tax plans to help the economy and the country's financial problems. Hovde told Local 5 the entire tax system needs to be thrown out.

"One of my big issues is major corporations that can buy off politicans to twist the tax codes to their advantage typically operate at half the tax rate of small businesses," said Hovde of the parity issues in the current tax code.

Hovde also discussed gasoline prices and health care reform. Click on the video above to watch the entire interview.
