Unions back Falk with ad money

By: Bret Lemoine
Updated: April 27, 2012

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) Unions in Wisconsin have generally backed Kathleen Falk in next month's democratic primary and they're showing their support through lots of air-time.  Nearly a million dollars has been spent by unions for Falk radio, TV and print ads.

We spoke with a Political Science Professor at Lawrence University about the impact these ads will have on the election.  Arnold Schober tells us Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett should be concerned, because union vote makes up a large chuck of the Democratic Party.

"They'll turn out to vote," Schober says.  "For that reason, Barrett should be concerned about that.  But they are in no way the majority of the Democratic Party, and no way the majority of democratic voters in Wisconsin."

But, the ads could also hurt Falk's overall message: "Kathleen Falk, by running on just the same one issue - labor issues, the vast majority of her support - runs the risk of becoming a single issue candidate," he says.

Governor Walker has only targeted Barrett in his latest round of TV ads.
