In Green Bay, police have different programs aimed to crackdown on drunk driving. Officer Mike Knetzger lost his teenage daughter in 2008 when a drunk driver crashed into her car. Since then, he's been a strong advocate for raising awareness on the issue. He says the city averages between 90 and 95 drunk driving arrests every month.
"With those arrests, sadly, the average BAC is .18," Knetzger said. "So those aren't just your social drinkers. Those are the individuals who are truly impaired and are dangerous to our innocent victims and families who are just trying to use the roads."
Knetzger said alcohol is a factor in 45% of all fatal crashes.
In 2010, Green Bay Police made nearly 1,100 OWI arrests.
