The Neenah Police Department is currently conducting an investigation of an attempted homicide that occurred around 6:30 this morning.
The incident happened in the 200 block of Joseph Court.
A review of the preliminary investigation has determined that a male driver attempted to run down another adult male with the driver's vehicle. The male victim managed to avoid being hit with only a minor injury to his leg.
In the process of trying to run down the victim, the driver of the car smashed into a parked vehicle at least twice, and an apartment building at least one. This resulted in moderate front and rear damage to the vehicle, and minor damage to the building.
Police units arrived within one minute of the initial call and were able to take the male driver into custody and disarm the victim, who at that time, was advancing on the driver with a pool cue.
The Neenah Police Department reports the victim to be a 42-year old Neenah resident. The driver is a 28-year old resident of Dubuque, Iowa. He was booked at the Winnebago County Jail for one count of Recklessly Endangering Safety and Attempted First Degree Homicide.
The Neenah Police Department will also be requesting a charge of Operating While Intoxicated, 4th Offense. That charge is now a felony under Wisconsin's new OWI law.
It is believed the two men did not previously know each other, but had a common female friend who lives in the area where the incident occurred.
Channel 5 will continue to follow this story and provide new details as information becomes available.
