MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Senator Russ Feingold says he will vote to confirm Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court.
The Wisconsin Democrat said Thursday he will vote in favor of Kagan when the Senate Judiciary Committee meets next week.
He says Kagan tried to answer questions openly and thoroughly during the committee's recent hearings. He says she has a "keen mind" and wide-ranging knowledge of the law.
Kagan is the U.S. solicitor general. In that role she represents the government in cases before the Supreme Court.
President Barack Obama nominated her to succeed retiring Justice John Paul Stevens. A Senate vote on her confirmation is expected by early next month.
She is widely seen as on track to win confirmation.
