The Marinette County Sheriff's Department has released the name of the man involved in a fatal motorcycle crash on Highway 8 near Niagara Tuesday morning.
Micheal Holtz of Minneapolis died when he was thrown from his motorcycle. Holtz was wearing a helmet, but due to the high impact, he sustained head trauma and died shortly after the crash. Operator error and riding too fast for conditions were contributing factors in the fatality.
The accident happened around 10:45 a.m. on Highway 8 east, approximately 300 feet west of Morin Road, in the Town of Niagara.
As we reported earlier, a motorcycle operated by a 49-year old Minneapolis man was riding along Highway 8 when he lost control and was thrown off the bike. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The coroner pronounced him dead at the scene. There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.
All lanes of Highway 8 were closed during the investigation and reconstruction of the crash.
This is the 8th traffic fatality for Marinette County this year.
