MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers today acquired outfielder Chris Dickerson from Cincinnati in exchange for outfielder Jim Edmonds. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Melvin.
Dickerson, 28, began the season on the Reds’ Opening Day roster and batted .205 (9-for-44, 0hr, 0rbi) in 20 games before landing on the 15-day disabled list on April 30. He made 10 starts (6g in CF, 3g in LF, 1g in RF). He underwent surgery on May 3 to remove the broken hook of the hamate bone in his right hand, along with a procedure to clean out his right wrist. He was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on May 29.
Dickerson has been on rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville since July 16, batting .442 (19-for-43) with 3 HR, 7 RBI and 6 stolen bases in 13 games. He is coming off consecutive three-hit games, going 6-for-9 with a home run and 3 RBI. His last game for Louisville was last Tuesday.
Dickerson has spent parts of each of the last three seasons with the Reds. He owns a career batting average of .274 with 8 HR and 30 RBI in 148 games, including 94 starts (49g in LF, 31g in CF, 14g in RF). He was selected by Cincinnati in the 16th round of the 2003 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Nevada-Reno.
Edmonds, 40, batted .286 with 8 HR and 20 RBI in 73 games with the Brewers this season. He signed as a free agent on January 28 after sitting out the entire 2009 season.
