Report: Packers, Jermichael Finley agree to 2-year Contract

By: Nick Goddard
Updated: February 22, 2012

Packers tight end Jermichael Finley confirmed via his Twitter account Wednesday night that he had agreed to a contract with Green Bay, avoiding free agency.

The website profootballtalk.com originally reported the news Wednesday evening.  The report said Finley and the Packers agreed to a 2 year- $15 million deal.  Finley was set to be an unrestricted free agent next month.

On his Twitter account Wednesday night, Finley said the following: " could not be happier to have the privilege of being a Packer for the next 2 yrs. Glad to be back with my team & coaches for 1 common goal"

It was thought that the Packers would have to use their Franchise Tag on Finley this offseason to avoid losing him in free agency.  Now the Packers could use the tag on Pro Bowl center Scott Wells, or backup quarterback Matt Flynn.  In Flynn's case, the Packers would use the tag as a means to trade Flynn, who is expected to be coveted by NFL teams in need of a quarterback this offseason.
