MARINETTE, Wis. (WFRV) - Wisconsin Public Service crews are working around the clock to restore power.
As of 7:00 pm Wednesday night WPS reports around 1,100 customers in Marinette/Menominee remain without power.
That's a big improvement from early Wednesday morning when more than 4,500 were in the dark.
The area's power problems started early this morning when a transmission line went down.
"There are a lot of areas that are hard to get to by vehicle so the only way is on foot" says Jenny Short, a Communications Leader for WPS.
According to Lead Lineman Jim Spychalski the snow "sometimes gets three feet deep in the ditch where the wires usually fall down.
Spychalski's crew is one of 18 called to help from the Green Bay area.
"These later season snowstorms can be the worst because temperatures are warmer. Ice makes snow heavy and really does wreak havoc" says Short.
WPS reminds everyone to always assume down lines are still live.
