The NFL "Kickoff Game" is traditionally hosted by the defending Super Bowl champions on the Thursday prior to opening weekend, but President Obama's speech at the Democratic National Convention, scheduled for Thursday, September 6th, forced the contest to be moved back.
It had been widely speculated that the Green Bay Packers would travel to East Rutherford, New Jersey, to play the Giants on opening night. The Packers will play at the Giants during the 2012 season.
The full NFL schedule will be released in April.
