By: Ed Walters
Updated: June 12, 2012

Manitowoc, Wis. (WFRV)  Manitowoc Police are investigating a vehicle pursuit that resulted in shots being fired at a 14 year old runaway driver from Illinois.

Police received a call Tuesday morning about a reckless driver crossing the centerline, hitting the gravel on the side of the road and running numerous stop signs.

Officers located the truck near South 8th and Franklin Streets and attempted to stop the vehicle at which time the truck accelerated rapidly and a pursuit ensued.  An officer attempted to slow down the fleeing vehicle by boxing it in with the squad car and was struck.  The truck then hit a light pole and the officer fired several shots at the vehicle.

The driver is a 14 year old runaway from Piatt County Illinois.  He was driving a truck that was reported stolen Monday night from Pearson Station, Illinois.

The suspect suffered a minor injury to an arm and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
