Ashwaubenon proposing changes to ticket scalping near Lambeau

Updated: July 18, 2012

ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WFRV)-- Scalping Packers tickets could get easier.

Ashwaubenon Public Safety is proposing repealing an ordinance that sets rules regarding selling tickets outside the stadium.

They would like the current ordinance, passed in 1997, to be repealed.

The ordinance requires people become licensed dealers by paying an $800 fee, wearing identification and submit to a background check.

"In the past couple years we've had anywhere from 8 to 11 ticket brokers that file the paperwork and pay the fee for license," said Ashwaubenon Public Safety Chief Eric Dunning.

Also under the current ordinance you're restricted to selling in a specific area, the intersection of Oneida and Armed Forces.

Dunning said that's the only thing that wouldn't change with the proposed repeal.

"It's kind of a sign of the times, there are other ways of people coming to the packers games to obtain tickets," said Dunning.

Dunning also said it's become difficult to monitor ticket scalping with 70-thousand plus fans to deal with on game day.

"There are times when we physically won't have anyone available in the Packers Zone for the scalping of tickets cause they are handling other calls of emergency factors so we're trying to balance that," said Dunning.

The decision of repealing the ordinance will go before village trustees next week.

In 2008 the  city of Green Bay adopted the same scalping ordinance as Ashwaubenon. The Green Bay police department tells local five they have no plans in the works to change it.
