APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) In follow-up to a story Local 5 first brought you on Monday, protesters outside Congressman Reid Ribble's office are demanding an apology after accusations they are being paid to demonstrate.
The protest was organized by a group called Wisconsin Jobs Now. They receive funding from labor unions, community groups and religious institutions. Leaders tell us no more than five paid staff members were present for a sit-in and protest outside Ribble's Appleton office. But the nearly two dozen other protesters present were there of their own free will.
A representative from the Congressman's office says the group was disruptive, and distracted his staff from helping constituents. Protesters say they just wanted to see Ribble and discuss his vote on Bush-era tax cuts.
Officials with the Congressman's office say they gave protesters a copy of a statement, asserting Ribble's stance on the tax cuts. They say they had to call police to remove the protesters from office and that some even ordered delivery from Jimmy Johns while they sat in the office.
