GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - As Mitt Romney gets set to wrap things up at the RNC in Tampa, northeast Wisconsin is getting ready to welcome Vice President Joe Biden ahead of next week's Democratic National Convention
Biden is scheduled to speak at the National Railroad Museum in Ashwaubenon Sunday afternoon. It's significant timing, just days before the DNC.
"I identify with Joe Biden," said Joan Swigert of Green Bay. "Ii think Joe Biden could be my neighbor."
Excitement is building as local democrats are awaiting a visit from the vice president. Swigert was one of the first in line for tickets.
"Independent voters, the people who are really trying to understand where they stand on issues will be able to come and hear what he has to say and then make some decisions," she said.
Campaign leaders say to expect a message that will energize voters.
"The vice president will be talking about the progress we've made in the last 3 1/2 years," said Joe Zepecki, the Wisconsin Communications Director for Obama For America. "We've now seen 29 consecutive months of job growth and 4.5 million new jobs added. Clearly we are moving forward."
"I'm part of that 99% and I want to see that 99% being treated fairly," added Swigert.
Tickets are needed for the free event. They're available at the democratic offices in Green Bay, Appleton and Oshkosh.
