Get There Safely This Holiday Weekend

GREEN BAY, Wisc. (WFRV) If you're heading out this Labor Day weekend, there are a few tips you want to keep in mind.

Drive sober or get pulled over. Law enforcement will have beefed up patrols all weekend long. It's part of the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign" to crack down on drunk drivers.

Avoid construction zones. Significant travel delays are expected if you're traveling in the area of the Leo Frigo Bridge in Green Bay. Construction on the bridge has lanes cut down to one in both directions. The Wisconsin DOT is urging motorists to instead take Highway 172 to travel between I-43 and Highway 41 in Brown County.

Be cautious and slow down on Highway 41 in Brown County. Orange barrels still line the highway. Narrower travel lanes and reduced shoulders can be found in multiple location of a 10-mile stretch. Speed is also reduced to 55mph from just south of Scheuring Road to Memorial Drive.

Avoid peak times of travel. According to the DOT, the majority of people will travel on Friday between noon and 8pm, and again from noon to 8pm on Monday.

Be aware of changing conditions on the water. According to the US Coast Guard, there have been 93 water-related deaths on the Great Lakes so far this year.  They're urging anyone heading out on the water to first check marine weather conditions.
