(WFRV) Your smart phone can now help you at the polls.
The government Accountability Board says electronic proof of residency can now be used when you are registering at the polls.
In the past, voters had to bring in a paper copy of a utility bill or mortgage agreement to prove residency.
Now a person can show an electronic bill from their smart phone, tablet or laptop.
La Crosse County Clerk Ginny Dankmeyer says voting procedures have to change with the times.
"As things change, more people are getting their bills through emails and they're not having the paper copies come in the mail anymore. So it's just as technology evolves so do the processes that we have to do with the elections." Said Ginny Dankmeyer, La Crosse County Clerk.
There will be some additional training for poll workers about accepting the electronic devices, but officials don't anticipate any problems.
