GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV)-- If you travel the Main Street bridge regularly you're going to have to find an alternate route starting September 10.
The bridge is closing first thing Monday morning and will be closed through mid-November for maintenance.
The city said it's not a safety issue with the bridge, but maintenance to the mechanical equipment that moves the bridge up and down.
"This bridge like any other bridge requires some routine maintenance, some of the steel counter weights that are in there, that help the bridge go up and down, they're starting to develop some rest that's developing through plates," said Steve Grenier, Asst. Director of Public Works for the City of Green Bay.
The city doesn't have an official detour mapped out, but expect it to be either on the Walnut street or the Mason Street Bridges, both within a mile of the Main Street bridge.
"We are still working on what the actual detour plan is," said Grenier, "I would imagine the official detours will include possibly walnut and the mason street bridge."
The city plans to have the detour signs up later this week.
