APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) The controversial new movie, "2016: Obama's America" has hit theaters in the Fox Cities. Marcus movie officials tell us the anti-President Obama flick expanded to three theaters in the Valley this past weekend. The film generated a lot of attention during the Republican National Convention for its portrayal of the President.
Filmmakers argue the President's father shaped the Obama administrations policies and viewpoints. Democrats say the film is fiction and hate.
"He wants everyone to be like Kenya where he came from [or whatever]. He's against colonialism," said one moviegoer who declined to give her name.
"It's really based in Looney Tunes theories and a personal hatred toward the president that has nothing to do with the truth," comments Democratic Party of Wisconsin Communications Director Graeme Zielinski.
Marcus Theatre officials told us they don't release local box office statistics. But nationally, "2016" has grossed more than $20 million since opening in mid-July.
