Oconto Falls, Wis. (WFRV) All school assemblies are common during the first week of school.
But there was one that took Oconto Falls students, and one of their teachers by surprise.
That's because high school science teacher JoAnn Miller was named one of four Wisconsin Teachers of the Year.
She was notified of that honor by State Superintendent Tony Evers.
But Miller says her success is shared by teachers and students alike.
"Nothing happens in a vacuum," she says. "And it's being able to exchange ideas with other people that produce the best ideas. And that goes for my students as well as other teachers."
Miller received a plaque from the herb kohl education foundation and three-thousand dollars in cash.
