Brewers stay up late, defeat Cardinals

By: Nick Goddard
Updated: September 8, 2012
After a nearly 2 1/2 hour rain delay, and 13 innings of baseball, Ryan Braun's 38th home run of the season led the Milwaukee Brewers to a 5-4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals early Saturday morning at Busch Stadium.

The 38th homer marks a career-high for Braun in a single season.  He now has 100 RBI.

John Axford worked a scoreless ninth to pick up his 26th save of the season.  The contest ended at 2:05 a.m.

With the win, the Brewers (68-70) pull within six games of the Cardinals for the 2nd National League Wild Card spot.  Milwaukee and St. Louis continue their series at 6:15 p.m. Saturday evening.
