MENASHA, Wis. (WFRV) Sikh leaders in Menasha are praising their counterparts in Oak Creek for speaking with law makers Wednesday. A group from the site of the deadly shooting six weeks ago traveled to Washington D.C. for a Senate hearing on hate crimes.
Singh Balli says much more needs to be done to protect Sikh's from hate crimes. He says it starts with education. Students have been calling the Sikh Temple of the Fox Valley for weeks, asking to come for more information about the faith. He says Sikhism is about peace and forgiveness.
"It doesn't matter what religion you belong, or country. Their main message - you have to have everyone [respecting each other] to go to heaven."
Doors at the Menasha temple are always open to anyone who wants to learn more. Services are held every weekend at the location on Midway Road.
