TOWN OF MENASHA, Wisc. (WFRV) A gas leak forced a Town of Menasha family out of their home overnight.
The leak started when a gas pipe broke off at the gas meter at a home on Fatima Street, just off Midway Road.
Firefighters used a water spray to knock down the gas in the air, minimizing the danger in the neighborhood.
Fire officials say it was a natural occurrence that they've seen before.
"Especially in the clay area, we'll get some settling. Especially now that it's dry, it seems to shrink. The line settles and it pulls on the line to a point where it will eventually break," Chief Keith Kiesow told Local Five.
WE Energies was called in. They used a hydraulic device to squeeze off the pipe in order to stop the gas from escaping.
The homeowners were able to get out safely. They were allowed back in their home after it was cleared of gas.
