Appleton, Wis.(WFRV)-- The largest block party in the Fox Cities takes place Saturday. But before Octoberfest kicks off, there are other things going on this weekend that will keep Appleton Police busy.
First Lady Michele Obama will speak Friday afternoon at Lawrence University, the "License to Cruise" car show kicks off Friday night, Octoberfest takes place Saturday, and, oh yes, there's a home Packers game against the New Orleans Saints at Lambeau Field this Sunday.
Five stages of music with 16 bands, food and about 100-thousand people will crowd into downtown Appleton on Saturday for the 31st annual Octoberfest.
More than 100 non-profit food vendors will line the avenue. The money raised from the event goes directly to help those groups.
Police and emergency crews in Appleton will be stretched thin. Appleton police will pay out more than 30-thousand dollars in salaries this weekend, including overtime.
Saturday, during Octoberfest, the New Orleans Saints will arrive downtown at the Paper Valley Hotel and will enter through the back doors.
The Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce is responsible for putting on Octoberfest.
They ask everyone to wear their green and gold Saturday, to support the Packers, and give the Saints something to look at from their hotel room windows.
