NEWS RELEASE

For Immediate Release

Downtown Traffic Rerouted Octoberfest Weekend

Motorists traveling downtown should plan alternate routes during the Octoberfest weekend.  License To Cruise will take place on Friday, September 28th from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Octoberfest takes place on Saturday September 29th from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.  College Avenue will close between Drew and Lawe Streets at 1 p.m. on Friday, the 28th, for License To Cruise vehicle staging.  The remainder of College Avenue (from Memorial Drive to Drew Street) will close two hours later at 3 p.m. and will remain closed overnight for Octoberfest the following morning.

Cross traffic will be restricted at the intersections of College Avenue and Morrison Street, and College Avenue and Appleton Street.  The specific times for these closures are as follows:

License To Cruise 09-28-12:  Appleton & Morrison Streets will close at College Avenue between 6 p.m. & 9:30 p.m.  All other cross streets along College Avenue, from Memorial/Richmond to Drew, will be closed starting at 3 p.m.

Octoberfest 09-29-12:  Appleton & Morrison Streets will close at College Avenue between 9 a.m. & 6 p.m.  All other cross streets along College Avenue, from Memorial/ Richmond to Lawe Street, will be closed starting at 5 a.m. and will not reopen until event clean up is completed around 9 p.m.

A bypass route has been planned for northbound motorists on the Oneida Skyline Bridge utilizing Prospect Avenue west to Memorial Drive.  The bypass route also takes southbound Appleton Street traffic west on Franklin to Richmond.  The route will be marked with signs along Franklin, Richmond /Memorial, & Prospect.  Appleton Police Units will monitor the route for congestion issues.  Motorists crossing the river are encouraged to use the East College Avenue Bridge, during both events, to avoid congested areas downtown.

A reminder to those individuals attending theses events:  No alcoholic beverage carry-ins allowed to the events, no glass containers, NO animals are allowed at special events, pedestrians need to obey all traffic laws at intersections around the event, individuals consuming alcoholic beverages need to plan a safe ride home.  Extra patrols will be out during and after the events to help ensure a safe time for all.
