'Ransomware' hits Valley hard

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) New threatening malware is wreaking havoc on computers across our area and it only takes one simple click of a mouse.  Reveton Ransomware takes over your PC with a full screen message from the FBI, demanding users pay $200.  But the Malware authors don't stop there.  They accuse you of viewing child pornography and threaten criminal prosecution if you don't pay.  The warning is fake but the scam can still end up costing you.

Experts at the Better Business Bureau say they've never seen anything like it: the program is downloaded onto your p-c through links on Facebook or Twitter or even e-mail attachments.  And just like that, this pop-up packs a punch: you can't get out of this screen unless you pay.  Users with webcams even see themselves flash on the screen.  Experts urge everyone to also purchase malware protection for your PC.  So far, the Ransomware hasn't impacted Apple products or android-based mobile devices.

Milwaukee PC reports repairing nearly 50 computers in just the last 3 weeks.  The cost to fully remove the Ransomware at Milwaukee PC is $100.  It can take up to a week before you get your computer back.
