MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (WFRV) Charlie Knuth will undergo a bone marrow biopsy today.
Last week, Charlie was admitted back into University Children's Hospital in Minneapolis after his blood pressure took a dangerous dive and his blood counts were abnormal. Test results confirmed an infection and a chest x-ray revealed pneumonia. He immediately began receiving rounds of blood transfusions, platelets, fluids, growth factors, antibiotics, steroids and dopamine.
Yesterday, Charlie's blood counts dropped even further. The raw blisters on his small body have become painful. His tummy is once again distended.
Doctor's feel Charlie's graft is rejecting again.
His mother, Trisha, fears what today's results may bring.
"Praying Charlie does not have empty bones. Praying he has cells..."
In her journal last night, Trisha shared the heartache of watching her little boy suffer...
"I never knew how much I could love this little boy. I never even thought about how it would feel to lose him. These ups and downs are mental torture. People often say that God never gives us more than we can handle.....This is becoming very hard to handle. I very much am wanting to scream and cry but I can't. I can't let Charlie see me upset and scared."
"We are reliving the nightmare we just lived a few months ago. Charlie told me tonight that if he could 'hit the EB away, he would punch himself right now.' I just want to wrap him up in my soul and protect him. I am so sad. My god, I am so sad."
