FOND DU LAC, Wisc. (WFRV) A fallen Fond du Lac police officer will be remembered today in a new documentary, "Heroes Behind the Badge".
Officer Craig Birkholz paid the ultimate sacrifice while responding to a sexual assault complaint in the City of Fond du Lac back in March 2011. In the same incident, Officer Ryan Williams was shot twice in the chest and once in the shoulder. His K-9 partner, Grendel, was also shot and wounded.
Their story will be one of several featured in the documentary, which some are calling an "eye opener" and an "important message for citizens at large".
Local 5's Wendy Fleury sat down with Officer Williams, who told her what an honor it is to have their story told. Click the video link above see the interview.
The premiere takes place tonight at the Fond du Lac High School Performing Arts Center. Doors open at 6:15pm. The program begins at 7pm. Tickets are still available and will be sold at the door for $15.
