Green Bay ranks 5th cheapest city for date night

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - Good news for your budget.

Tuesday Green Bay ranked as the 5th cheapest city for a date, among all cities in the U.S. with 80,000 or more people.

"It is very affordable to go out if you know where to look for the deals" says Jennifer Jacobson Carew, writer for the Green Bay Consumer.

She spends a few minutes online before date night with her husband visiting sites like Groupon or Living Social. "A lot of times there are restaurants that we wanted to try and haven't on there" Jacobson Carew explains.

People in Green Bay spend an average of $95.25 on a date.

City leaders say you can do it even cheaper.

"Unique places like The Art Garage" are what Jeff Mirkes recommends. "They have entertainment, very affordable, sometimes $5 to get in".

Captain's Walk Winery is the hot spot for online daters, meeting for the first time.

"It is just really nice and relaxing. You have another person here too to break the ice and kind of talk to you a little bit" says Jocelyn Grueneberg Assistant Manager and Event Coordinator at the winery.

The study also took into account the cost of parking and that is one place where Green Bay daters can save big. Larger cities like Milwaukee charge upwards of $20 to enter a ramp or lot. In Green Bay, ramps downtown are free at night and on the weekend.

"Downtown is very walkable there's restaurants nearby" say Mirkes.

Green bay has it good considering people in Miami fork over an average of $215 per date.

"Oh no" says Jacobson Carew. "That is like a month's worth of groceries".

"You can get a lot for $200 downtown, probably over a couple of days" says Mirkes. "Your date could last a few days if you need it to".

The study also found, on average, people looking for a serious relationship spend about 15 dollars more on their date.
