GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - Candidates in the 30th State Senate seat race squared off Monday afternoon. Incumbent democrat Dave Hansen is facing republican challenger John Macco on the November 6th ballot.
In a debate hosted by the non-partisan group Project Vote, Hansen and Macco fielded questions from a panel and the audience. Topics ranged from northeast Wisconsin's economy, health care, funding to education and school vouchers.
"If there ever is to be a voucher program in Green Bay, it should have a bill, it should have a full public hearing before anything moves forward," Hansen said.
"I don't understand how we can talk about being for workers or for the underserved and the under privileged and not give them the same choices that I have, or that the senator had, to go to a private school, " Macco said. "I want to have that."
The candidates also acknowledged the negative tone that's been cast over the campaigns, mostly through third party groups.
