KEWAUNEE, Wis. (WFRV) The closure of Kewaunee's Nuclear Power Plant could mean an increase in taxes for nearby communities.
The power plant generates revenue for the Town of Carlton through a utility credit. On average, Carlton sees between $300,000 and $400,000 a year. The county receives about $900,000.
As a result Town of Carlton residents don't pay a town tax. The Clerk, Linda Sinkula, says other taxing avenues are frozen. Sinkula isn't sure what town leaders will do for funding but she says residents will be asked to pay more. "There's going to be no money, period."
We're told town leaders will meet with managers of the nuclear power plant Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, the Town of Carlton will hold its budget hearing November 8th at 6:00 PM.
