Sweeping the ALCS didn't do the Detroit Tigers any favors at the plate or on the mound in game one of the World Series. And nothing could cool off the hot bat of Giants slugger Pablo Sandoval. San Francisco's third baseman clubbed a record tying three home runs at AT&T Park on Wednesday night. Sandoval joins the ranks of Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson, and Albert Pujols as the only players to hit three homers in the fall classic. Tigers ace Justin Verlander gave up five runs on six hits with just four strikeouts in four innings of work taking the loss for Detroit. San Francisco ended up using four relievers over the last 3 1/3 innings to close out the victory 8-3. Game 2 is Thursday night with the Giants up 1-0 in the series. Detroit's Doug Fister faces San Francisco's Madison Bumgarner.
