MANITOWOC, Wisc. (WFRV) A proposed men's emergency homeless shelter in Manitowoc will not move forward as planned.
In a special meeting last night, the Committee of the Whole told both sides they need to come to an agreement before the Committee gives the green light for a conditional use permit.
The Haven of Manitowoc County, Inc made the request to convert the property at 610 South 29th St. to a homeless shelter.
Concerned citizens in the area, however, are against the proposal. They are concerned for safety, security and decreased property values.
"All things considered, we raised awareness and agree that something needs to be done," Mark LeGreve, President of The Haven told Local Five after last night's meeting. "In the end though it sounded like a majority of the Committee would only support a mutual agreement that the entire neighborhood supported, they would not support if there was any dissent."
LeGreve says neighbors are willing to work with The Haven to find a different location.
