GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - President Barack Obama canceled his campaign stop scheduled for Tuesday in Green Bay.

He is at the White House, monitoring the impact of Hurricane Sandy.

Tuesdays event was going to the first in Green Bay for the President this election season.

Voters Local 5 spoke with are disappointed, but agree with canceling the event.

They say Barack Obama's work ethic is just one reason they want him re-elected.

"We are glad he's doing that, that is where he belongs. We're still going to be hitting hard the next eight days and our members are still out there" says Don Allen, a supporter of Barack Obama.

He stopped by the Obama for America office in Green Bay to get tickets for members of his electrical workers union.

"[The President] backs working class and he's pro union, everything that we stand for" explains Allen.

Instead of getting tickets to the scrapped event, Don was asked to volunteer for the party.

It is an effort kicking into high gear.

"We are asking them to come in, knock doors, make phone calls. Just work on the campaign" says Mary Ginnebaugh, Chair for the Democratic Party of Brown County.

Volunteers spent much of Monday on the phone with thousands of ticket holders, telling them the event is off. They also contacted people who signed up to work the event.

"When a president comes to your community you spend an a lot of time preparing for that" says Ginnebaugh.

Even without this visit Brown County democrats know their vote matters.

"The superstars are coming and that shows me how important I am and how important these people are" says volunteer Rich Langan.

Democratic leaders say a visit from the President could still happen before election day.

"I don't think it's out of the question but I think the important thing is that he stays in Washington and we'll do our job here in Brown County" says Ginnebaugh.

US Senate candidate Tammy Baldwin scheduled a fundraiser to coincide with the President's visit.

Her event will still take place in Green Bay.

Local five has also learned that president Bill Clinton will campaign in Wisconsin this week.

The details have yet to be announced.
