PULASKI, Wis. (WFRV) - In Pulaski voters said no to a $33 million school referendum.

The vote was not close. 6,625 people said no, 3,907 said yes.

Older schools need roof and parking lot repairs.

The district also asked for money to expand classrooms and libraries.

Some voters feel those needs should have been separated from the district asking for amenities like a pool and athletic complex.

"A school district referendum is what I call the ultimate listening session" says Pulaski Superintendent Mel Lightner. "The district put together a comprehensive needs package, the community did not agree with it and it was an overwhelming majority".

The district has no real plan b, other than to work immediate facility needs into next year's budget.
